A heartbroken father in Abuja has accused a staff member of Gidan Mangoro Hospital of causing the death of his newborn due to an alleged refusal to begin a life-saving procedure over an unpaid balance of ₦8,000.
In an emotional video recorded within the hospital premises, the grieving father tearfully narrated that his wife had attended all her antenatal sessions at the facility without owing any fees. However, on the day she went into labour, a staff member allegedly insisted on receiving the outstanding amount before continuing with a crucial procedure, leaving the newborn unattended at a critical moment.
According to his account, the baby was already in distress by the time he managed to transfer part of the requested amount. The infant was later placed on oxygen and moved between multiple hospitals in an effort to save his life, but he unfortunately did not survive.
The distraught father cried out in the video, saying:
“Let the world hear me. This is where my baby died—Gidan Mangoro Hospital. This is where they failed my child because of their negligence. My wife did all her antenatal sessions here. I never owed them anything.”
He explained that he brought the amount he had at the time, but the staff member allegedly refused to proceed. “Because of ₦8,000,” he said, “I had to transfer ₦3,000 first before she even touched my wife. By then, my baby was already weak.”
He went on to express deeper anguish as he recounted how his newborn was placed on oxygen from one hospital to another. “This is where it all started,” he said. “I told the nurse to continue. I begged her. How much is ₦8,000? My son is gone because she refused to help us.”
The father also revealed that his wife was still admitted and unwell, adding that hospital staff had reportedly told her the baby had been taken to another hospital, shielding her from the tragic truth due to her fragile condition.
“This woman refused to save my child,” he cried. “I begged her. I begged yesterday, but she refused.”
The video has continued to spark widespread outrage as Nigerians demand a thorough investigation into the incident.
